STARFLEET Scholarship

Since 1990, our organization has presented monetary scholarships to special active STARFLEET members who are attending community colleges, four-year colleges, most technical schools, junior colleges, and universities or graduate school, or any other accredited institution/organization that offers a certificate/certified program.  If unsure, just ask the Director.  Scholarships are awarded in amounts based on number of applicants and availability of funds.

Applications for the 2024 Scholarship Awards will be available on 1 January 2024 The application period runs from 1 January to 1 June.  All applications must be received no later than 1 June.

This scholarship award is paid in a single installment and should be utilized for tuition, books, fees, loans and other ancillary costs associated with furthering the winner’s education. If the student receives more funding than required to pay for all their associated educational costs,
the overage may be provided to the student.

List of Scholarships

Over the years, the number and variety of our Scholarships have changed. The following is a list of the current Scholarships that STARFLEET offers.

The first five scholarships listed are for STARFLEET members only:

  • ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY – James Doohan/Montgomery Scott Engineering and Technology Scholarship

This very popular sholarship covers any field related to engineering and other fields of study involving technology, computer science, etc.

  • MEDICINE AND VETERINARIAN – DeForest Kelley/Dr. Leonard McCoy Memorial Medical and Veterinarian Scholarship

This is for medical studies of both humans and animals and is awarded for programs in medical school, nursing school, physical therapy, pre-med, EMT-Paramedic, surgical technician, biomedical technician, and the study veterinary medicine.

  • ARTISTIC – Gene Roddenberry Memorial/Sir Patrick Stewart Scholarship for Aspiring Writers Artists

This is for all those studying acting, dance, music, writing, literature, or for skills and training relating to the media, graphic artists, film making, etc.

  • BUSINESS/MANAGEMENT/EDUCATION– Armin Shimerman/George Takei/LeVar Burton Scholarship for Business, Language Studies and Education

This Scholarship is for business and management studies, the study of foreign languages or studies abroad, and for teaching.

  • MISCELLANEOUS – Space Explorers’ Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship honors the Apollo, Shuttle Challenger, and Shuttle Columbia astronauts and Russian cosmonauts that have died to further our efforts in space exploration. It is a “general duty” scholarship and applies to all courses of study not mentioned in the other four Scholarships.  If scholarship applicant’s field of study does not quite match up with one of the other scholarship types, they may be awarded this one.

 

For NON-STARFLEET members only and new for 2023:

  • Scholarship for Women Pursuing a Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics

This scholarship is available to women that are pursuing a degree in a STEM field. Applicants must submit proof of acceptance to a higher education program to be considered for this scholarship. Fill out the application form below and submit a 1–2 page essay discussing goals you intend to pursue with a career in STEM and why you are the best candidate for this scholarship.  Submit application packets to the Director, STARFLEET Scholarship Program.

  • Russell Camp III Memorial Diversity Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to an applicant that has exemplified diversity through actions while pursuing a degree in higher education. Applicants must submit proof of acceptance to a higher education program to be considered for this scholarship. Fill out the application form at the link below and submit with it a 1-2 page essay discussing why IDIC is important to you, any accomplishments you have made in your work to promote IDIC, and why you are the best candidate for this scholarship. Submit application packets to the Director, STARFLEET Scholarship Program.
